Here\u2019s what to do next to stay protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Identify Your Pill Type<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two main types of birth control pills:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/trust.ph\/fil\/methods\/combined-oral-contraceptive\/\">Combined oral contraceptives<\/a> (contain both estrogen + progestin)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/trust.ph\/fil\/methods\/progestin-only-pill\/\">Progestin\u2011only pills<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The instructions below differ slightly depending on which one you take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If You Take a Combined Oral Contraceptive<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Missed 1 Pill<\/strong> (late by 24-48 hours)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take the missed pill as soon as you remember.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then take your next pill at the usual time, even if this means taking two pills in one day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You don\u2019t need backup protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/trust.ph\/fil\/emergency-contraception-yuzpe-method\/\">Emergency contraception<\/a> can be considered if hormonal pills were missed earlier in the cycle or in the last week.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Missed 2 or More Pills (more than 48 hours since you took a pill)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take the most recent missed pill right away and discard the other missed pills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue taking your pills on schedule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use backup contraception (e.g., <a href=\"https:\/\/trust.ph\/fil\/methods\/condoms\/\">condom<\/a>) or avoid sex until you\u2019ve taken pills correctly for 7 days in a row.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the missed pills were in the first week of your pack and you had unprotected sex in the past 5 days, you should consider <a href=\"https:\/\/trust.ph\/fil\/emergency-contraception-yuzpe-method\/\">emergency contraception<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If You Miss Pills at the End of a Pack<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some packs have a week of \u201cplacebo\u201d pills\u2014these don\u2019t have hormones.
